Retainers hold your teeth in place while the surrounding bone and tissue adapt, ensuring your beautiful smile lasts a lifetime.
Without proper retention, teeth can shift back toward their original positions – undoing months or years of treatment. That’s why we emphasize the importance of wearing your retainers as directed and maintaining them properly.

Clear Removable Retainers
Similar to Invisalign, these clear plastic retainers fit snugly over your teeth. They're virtually invisible and easy to remove for eating and cleaning.

Hawley Retainers
Traditional retainers with a metal wire that runs across the front teeth and an acrylic base that fits against the roof of your mouth or behind your lower teeth.

How Long Do I Need to Wear My Retainer?
Phase 1: Full-Time Wear
First 3-6 MonthsWear your retainer 24/7, removing only for eating, drinking (except water), and brushing. This critical period allows bone and tissue to adapt to your new tooth positions.
Phase 2: Nighttime Wear
6-12 MonthsPhase 3: Long-Term Maintenance

Lost or Broken Your Retainer?
What to Do If Your Retainer Is Lost or Broken
If you lose or break your retainer, contact our office immediately. The sooner we can make a replacement, the less likely your teeth will shift. We keep your dental records on file, making it quick and easy to create a new retainer.
There is a fee for replacement retainers, so take good care of them! Always store them in their case when not wearing, never wrap them in napkins, and keep them away from pets.
What If I Haven't Worn My Retainer in a While?
If you've stopped wearing your retainer and your teeth have shifted, don't be embarrassed— this is very common! Schedule an appointment so Dr. Dula can evaluate your teeth and discuss options.
Depending on how much your teeth have moved, we may be able to use your existing retainer, create a new one, or recommend a short course of treatment to get your teeth back where they should be.
