The Surgical Orthodontic Process
Comprehensive Evaluation & Planning
Dr. Dula conducts a thorough examination including X-rays, photos, and 3D imaging. We discuss your concerns, goals, and develop a detailed surgical plan in consultation with your oral surgeon.
Pre-Surgical Orthodontics (12-18 months)
Braces are placed to align your teeth within each jaw and prepare them for surgery. This phase positions teeth so they'll fit together properly after your jaws are repositioned.
Surgical Procedure
Your oral surgeon performs the jaw repositioning surgery in a hospital setting. The procedure typically takes 2-4 hours, and most patients stay overnight for monitoring.
Recovery & Healing (6-12 weeks)
Initial swelling subsides in 2-3 weeks. You'll follow a modified diet and attend follow-up appointments. Most people return to work or school within 2-4 weeks.
Post-Surgical Orthodontics (6-12 months)
Final refinements are made with braces to perfect your bite and ensure optimal results. This phase fine-tunes tooth positions for ideal function and aesthetics.
Retention
After braces are removed, you'll wear retainers to maintain your beautiful new smile and bite. Regular follow-ups ensure long-term stability.
Benefits of Surgical Orthodontics
Improved Bite Function
Enhanced Facial Harmony
Better Breathing
Repositioned jaws can open airways and improve breathing, especially during sleep.
